From the first tentative foray into breathing underwater in a lukewarm swimming pool, to (eventually) teaching students the skills they need to qualify, the road to pro may be a long one but it’s proving to be one hell of an awesome journey. Having taken our Open Water in Malta earlier this year, James and I decided that our holiday to St Lucia would be the perfect chance to take the next step. Even before we qualified, we planned our trip around diving, knowing that it was something we both loved and wanted to do more of. We wanted to choose a destination that offered great diving as well as good food, beaches and culture.

Monday musings…Roatan porn

Last night it snowed. This morning it dropped well below freezing. 24 hours ago we blew a socket which took out our electricity supply and our heating. The timing is less than ideal. With a day booked off work to wait for an emergency electrician, I was faced with two options: Sit in the freezing house, wrapped up in scarves, seeing if I could warm up a tin of soup just by breathing on it. Take myself and my laptop to the deli up the road and drink gallons of tea whilst indulging in ‘Roatan porn’. Still on a high after booking our flights, naturally I chose the latter…

New year, new you

My travelling & blogging resolutions

I’ve never been a big fan of New Year’s resolutions. I always seem to start the year with every intention of fulfilling some vague, obligatory goals – you know the kind: eat more vegetables, lose weight, always take your makeup off before you go to sleep, and learn Japanese. Well-meaninged to be sure, but utterly generic. As a result, I find that I’ve broken the majority of them by the second week of January, and treat myself to a massive chocolate binge to compensate.  But with so many massive milestones ahead of me, I thought that 2015 is the prime year to give them another go.
